Description

Feyles Barbaresco Riserva 2014 is a classically styled Nebbiolo from the hills of Barbaresco in Piemonte, Italy. Sourced from carefully selected parcels and matured for an extended period in the cellar, it offers a compelling mix of elegance, complexity and traditional craftsmanship. The cooler 2014 vintage lends this Riserva a distinctive finesse and freshness that will appeal to purists and collectors alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Feyles Barbaresco Riserva 2014 shows a garnet hue with brick-orange reflections at the rim, clearly marking its development and time in bottle. The nose is expressive and layered: ripe sour cherry and dried red berries intertwine with rose petals, leather, licorice and hints of forest floor, tobacco and sweet spices from the long oak aging. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium to full-bodied and beautifully poised, with silky yet firmly structured tannins and a vibrant, high natural acidity that keeps everything fresh and focused. Flavors of macerated cherry, redcurrant and blood orange are joined by notes of dried herbs, undergrowth, tar and subtle balsamic tones, leading into a long, savory, mineral finish. Already in a lovely drinking window, this 2014 Riserva still has several years of positive evolution ahead; well-stored bottles should continue to develop tertiary nuances for another 8–10 years.

Production
The Nebbiolo grapes for Feyles Barbaresco Riserva 2014 come from traditional hillside vineyards in the Barbaresco DOCG, where calcareous marl soils, good drainage and a cool continental climate help produce wines of precision and aromatic complexity. The grapes were harvested by hand with careful selection in the vineyard to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy clusters made it to the winery, a crucial step in the cooler, more challenging 2014 vintage. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit, followed by a long maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin and flavor in a controlled, traditional manner. The wine then underwent extended maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing slow oxygen exchange and the development of classic tertiary Nebbiolo notes, before further refinement in bottle prior to release as a Riserva. The overall approach is low-intervention and rooted in regional tradition, emphasizing transparency of terroir over overt oakiness.

Food & Serving
This Barbaresco Riserva comes into its own alongside richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, braised beef, osso buco, game birds, venison and slow-cooked ragùs, as well as truffle-based cuisine, mushroom risottos and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino. Serve at 16–18 °C in large Burgundy or Nebbiolo glasses to allow the bouquet to fully unfold. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, both to open up the aromatics and to gently soften the tannins, especially if enjoyed on the younger side of its drinking window.

Producer
Feyles is a traditional Piemontese producer with a clear focus on classic expressions of Nebbiolo from the region’s most prestigious appellations. Working with time-honored methods and minimal intervention, the estate has built a reputation among insiders for authentic, ageworthy wines that respect local terroir and vintages rather than chasing modern trends. In Barbaresco, Feyles’ Riserva bottlings stand out for their adherence to long cask aging, nuanced aromatics and structural finesse, making them sought-after by enthusiasts who appreciate the more old-school, cellarworthy side of Piemonte.
