Failla Haynes Vineyard Syrah 2019

Failla Haynes Vineyard Syrah 2019 is a richly flavored, intensely expressive Syrah from one of Napa Valley’s oldest sites, first planted in 1967. Crafted by Ehren Jordan, whose Rhône background gives him a natural feel for the variety, this is a wine that captures both power and finesse in a distinctly Californian style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark color that signals concentration and depth. The nose is classic and compelling, with dark fruit, black pepper, smoked meat, sandalwood, and layers of warm spice. The palate is bold and structured, bringing ripe black fruit and peppery spice into clear focus, supported by a long, persistent finish. It is already impressive to drink now, but its balance, concentration, and firm structure suggest excellent aging potential over the coming years.

Production
The fruit comes from Haynes Vineyard in Napa Valley, a historic site with roots dating back to 1967. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, and the wine is made with whole-cluster pressing and fermentation to preserve complexity and texture. It then matures for 11 months in French oak, including 15% new barrels, adding subtle spice and polish without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roast beef, duck, venison, or rich dishes featuring mushrooms and black pepper. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if drinking young to help the aromatics open up and soften the structure.
