Esprit de Pavie 2014 is a beautifully made Bordeaux that offers remarkable quality for the price. Crafted under the guidance of Gerard and Chantal Perse, owners of Château Pavie, it brings together pedigree, depth, and approachability in a style that reflects the strength of the estate’s Saint-Émilion roots.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark colour that hints at its concentration. The nose is layered with black fruits, forest berries, pencil shavings, and a subtle flinty, stony edge that adds freshness and finesse. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, yet balanced by a fine texture and well-integrated tannins. Merlot lends softness and generosity, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon bring structure, depth, and complexity. It can be enjoyed now, but will also reward several years of cellar ageing.

Production
Esprit de Pavie comes from a broad range of terroirs on the south-facing slopes of the Dordogne Valley in Bordeaux, where the vines benefit from excellent exposure and a diversity of soils. The blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine is vinified in vats before being matured for 15 months in French oak barrels previously used at Château Pavie and Château Monbousquet.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast beef, lamb, duck, mushroom dishes, and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for an hour if opening it young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

First released with the 2008 vintage, the wine was created to offer a more accessible expression of the estate’s expertise, while still benefiting from the same attention to detail and quality standards that have earned the Perse family international recognition.
