Description

Erick Schreiber Champagne Essentiel Extra Brut is a finely tuned grower Champagne that puts purity, precision and terroir expression at center stage. Crafted from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, it offers a wonderfully dry, vibrant profile that highlights the character of the southern Champagne region. Its low dosage and careful blending make it an ideal choice for those who appreciate Champagne in its most honest, wine-focused form.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Essentiel Extra Brut typically shows a pale straw to light golden hue, animated by a fine, persistent mousse. On the nose, expect lifted aromas of citrus zest, green apple, white flowers and lightly toasted bread, often joined by hints of chalk, almond and subtle stone fruit depending on the base vintages in the blend. The palate is clean, dry and focused, with extra brut dosage emphasizing tension and minerality over sweetness. Crisp acidity frames flavors of lemon, pear and orchard fruit, layered with notes of brioche, biscuit and a light nuttiness from time on the lees. The texture is refined and silky, with a long, mouthwatering finish that feels both energetic and elegant. Enjoy it now for its freshness and vibrancy; with proper cellaring over the next 3–5 years, it can gain additional complexity and a more pronounced autolytic (brioche and pastry) character.

Production
This Champagne is sourced from vineyards in the Champagne region of France, where cool climate and chalk- and limestone-rich soils create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection and preserve the integrity of the fruit. After gentle pressing, the base wines are vinified separately by variety and parcel before being blended to achieve the house style. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle following the traditional méthode champenoise, with extended lees aging to build texture and complexity. The wine is finished with an extra brut dosage, keeping residual sugar very low so the underlying terroir and structure remain front and center.

Food & Serving
Erick Schreiber Essentiel Extra Brut is an excellent aperitif Champagne, pairing beautifully with oysters, fresh shellfish, sushi, crudo and simple seafood dishes where its bright acidity can shine. It also complements light canapés, goat cheese, sashimi, vegetable tempura and delicately seasoned white fish or poultry. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10 °C (46–50 °F) to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. A brief, 10–15 minute rest in the glass is usually enough for it to open up; extended decanting is not necessary, though you can pour it into a carafe just before serving if you wish to soften the bubbles slightly for a more vinous experience.

Producer
Erick Schreiber is an independent grower-producer in Champagne, working predominantly with estate-grown fruit and emphasizing a careful, artisanal approach in the cellar. As part of a newer generation of Champagne producers focused on precision and terroir, Schreiber’s wines aim to express the nuances of their specific sites rather than a purely standardized house style. The domaine’s work with all three key varieties—Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc—adds nuance and texture to the blends, and has helped build a reputation among Champagne enthusiasts looking for characterful, small-production bottlings that stand apart from the larger houses.
