Description

Emmanuel Brochet Champagne Rosè d'Assemblage Extra Brut is a refined grower rosé Champagne crafted in tiny quantities from the rolling slopes just outside Reims. This is not a mass‑market rosé, but a precise, characterful expression of Pinot Meunier in its purest, most vibrant form. Extra Brut dosage keeps the wine tense and mineral, allowing the natural fruit, chalky freshness and signature Brochet finesse to take center stage. As a rosé d’assemblage, a carefully judged portion of still red wine is blended into the base Champagne, giving both color and subtle structure without sacrificing elegance. Emmanuel Brochet has become one of the most sought‑after small growers in the Champagne region, celebrated for his meticulous organic farming and for wines that reflect place and season with striking clarity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a delicate, shimmering salmon‑pink hue with fine, persistent bubbles and a silvery rim—visually elegant and immediately inviting. The nose opens with wild red berries—think crushed raspberry and woodland strawberry—layered with blood orange zest, pomegranate, and hints of rose petals. Subtle undertones of brioche, chalk dust, white pepper, and a whisper of herbal nuance add depth and complexity. On the palate, Rosè d'Assemblage Extra Brut is taut, dry and finely etched, with the distinct personality of Pinot Meunier at its core. Juicy red currant and cranberry are wrapped in a bright citrus spine, supported by a chalky, saline minerality that speaks clearly of Champagne’s limestone soils. The mousse is creamy yet energetic, giving a sense of lift and precision rather than opulence. The low dosage keeps everything crisp and mouthwatering, with a long, linear finish marked by red fruit, spice, and a gentle, smoky mineral note. While beautifully expressive now, this Champagne has the structure and acidity to evolve gracefully over 3–7 years, gaining more brioche, spice and savory depth with time in bottle.

Production
This rosé Champagne comes from carefully tended vineyards in the Champagne region of France, where chalk and limestone-rich soils provide excellent drainage and a cool, steady ripening environment for Pinot Meunier. Emmanuel Brochet works with a strong focus on organic and sustainable practices, encouraging deep root systems and low yields to concentrate flavor and preserve the natural vitality of the fruit. Harvest is carried out by hand, parcel by parcel, so that only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches make it to the press. In the cellar, the base wines are vinified separately—often in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak—before blending. To create the rosé d’assemblage, a precise portion of still red Pinot Meunier is added back to the white base wine, achieving both color and subtle tannic grip. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged on its lees for an extended period to build texture, complexity and fine mousse before disgorgement at an Extra Brut dosage to preserve purity and tension.

Food & Serving
This Extra Brut rosé Champagne is a versatile partner at the table, shining with dishes that highlight both freshness and finesse. It pairs beautifully with tuna tartare, salmon sashimi, lobster rolls, or scallop crudo, as well as with charcuterie, terrines, and soft-rind cheeses like Brie or Chaource. The red-berry notes make it a natural fit for duck breast with cherries, roast chicken with herbs, or even lightly spiced Asian dishes such as salmon with ginger and soy. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to emphasize its precision and freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass is usually enough for it to open up; decanting is not necessary, though pouring into good tulip-shaped Champagne stems will help the aromatics fully express themselves.

Producer
Emmanuel Brochet is one of the brightest names among Champagne’s new generation of grower‑producers, crafting characterful, terroir‑driven wines from his own vineyards rather than from purchased fruit. Based in the heart of the Champagne region, he farms his parcels with great care—embracing organic principles, limiting yields, and favoring meticulous handwork in the vines to capture the nuances of soil and site. Over the past decade, Brochet has earned a strong following among sommeliers and collectors for Champagnes that are both precise and soulful, often highlighting Pinot Meunier in a way that elevates this historically underappreciated grape. His cuvées, including this Rosè d'Assemblage Extra Brut, are now regarded as benchmark examples of artisanal Champagne, showcasing both the potential of his vineyards and the broader shift in the region toward quality, authenticity and individuality.
