Donnafugata, Moscato di Pantelleria Kabir 2024

Donnafugata Kabir 2024 is a beautifully expressive Moscato di Pantelleria from the volcanic island of Pantelleria, where old vines struggle against wind, sun, and rocky terrain to produce intensely aromatic fruit. Made from Zibibbo, the local name for Muscat of Alexandria, it combines Mediterranean richness with the freshness and mineral tension that make this sweet wine so distinctive. Named after the Arabic word for “the Great,” Kabir reflects both the character of the island and the elegance of Donnafugata’s style.

Tasting Notes
Kabir pours a clear straw yellow with golden reflections. The nose is generous and fragrant, offering ripe nectarine, orange blossom, and a floral sweetness that feels lifted and refined rather than heavy. On the palate, the wine mirrors its aromatic profile with juicy stone fruit, bright floral tones, and a clean mineral edge that balances the natural sweetness beautifully. The finish is long and persistent, with subtle hints of pepper and nutmeg. While enjoyable young for its vivid aromatics, it also has the structure to hold its charm over the near term.

Production
The Zibibbo grapes for Kabir come from Pantelleria’s sandy volcanic soils, formed from lava and planted at elevations between 20 and 400 meters above sea level. The island’s harsh winds and saline maritime influence shape the vines and help preserve freshness in the fruit. Harvested for high sugar concentration, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel at a controlled 14–16°C, then matured for four months in tank and a further four months in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
Serve Kabir well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to highlight its aromatic lift and balance its sweetness. It is an excellent match for strong cheeses, fruit salad, and baked desserts, and is especially worth trying with bottarga, smoked tuna, swordfish, and goat cheese. Decanting is not necessary.
