Description

Dominio de Pingus is one of Spain’s most sought-after names, celebrated for producing deeply expressive Tempranillo from tiny, old-vine parcels in Castilla y León. The 2023 vintage continues the estate’s reputation for combining intensity, finesse, and rarity, with fruit drawn from ancient vines in Barrosso and San Cristóbal—sites that have helped make Pingus a modern reference point in Spanish fine wine.

Tasting Notes
Expect a wine of remarkable depth and concentration, with a vivid, polished appearance and the kind of fragrance that comes from very old vines and careful whole-cluster work. The nose typically leans toward dark berries, plum, violets, spice, and subtle earthy notes, with oak used more as a frame than a flavor driver. On the palate, Pingus is known for being powerful yet refined: dense fruit, layered texture, fine tannins, and a long, precise finish. The 2023 should have excellent aging potential, developing even greater complexity over time, with the structure to evolve gracefully for many years in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from just 4.2 hectares across two exceptional parcels, Barrosso and the older San Cristóbal, planted with very old Tempranillo vines in Castilla y León. In stronger years, the tiny vineyard area yields fruit for only about 30 barrels, underscoring the wine’s rarity and concentration. Harvest is carried out with great attention to grape maturity, and vinification includes a significant proportion of whole clusters when the stems are fully ripe. Fermentation and élevage take place in French oak, including large 2,000-liter barrels and used 228-liter French barriques, with a restrained approach to new oak. The wine matures for around 21 months, and is bottled unfiltered and unfined to preserve purity and texture.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for fine dining and special occasions, pairing beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, game, truffle dishes, or slow-braised meats. It also works well with mature Manchego or other aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended, especially when young, to allow the wine to खुल fully and show its layered aromas and structure.

Producer
Dominio de Pingus, founded by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, has become one of the iconic producers of modern Spain and a benchmark for world-class Tempranillo. Based in Ribera del Duero, the estate is admired for its tiny production, old-vine sources, and meticulous cellar work, all of which have earned it an almost cult status among collectors. Its achievements have placed it firmly among the most influential and celebrated wineries in the region.
