Description

Domaine Truchetet Auxey-Duresses Le Plain de Lugny Vignoble de Pauline 2023 is a refined, small-production red Burgundy that captures the fresh, pure character of Pinot Noir in a cool, classical vintage. Sourced from the terroir of Auxey-Duresses, this cuvée offers a beautifully lifted style with vivid fruit, fine structure and a distinct sense of place. Dedicated to the “Vignoble de Pauline”, it reflects both family heritage and a new generation’s touch at this rising Burgundy domaine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Auxey-Duresses Le Plain de Lugny shows a bright, translucent ruby color with youthful violet highlights at the rim. The appearance is delicate yet vibrant, hinting at the wine’s finesse and energy. The nose opens with red cherry, wild strawberry and crushed raspberry, followed by floral notes of rose petal and peony, and a subtle backdrop of forest floor and warm earth. Gentle hints of baking spice, light toast and a touch of citrus zest add complexity without overshadowing the fruit. On the palate, this Pinot Noir is sleek and medium-bodied, with finely etched tannins and a refreshing, mouth-watering acidity that keeps the wine lively and precise. Flavors of red berries and cherry pit are layered with savory notes of herbs, tea leaf, and a discreet mineral core that speaks clearly of Burgundy limestone. The finish is long, graceful and delicately spicy, suggesting a wine that is already approachable in youth but will gain further nuance over the next 5–8 years.

Production
Le Plain de Lugny lies in Auxey-Duresses, a village nestled between Meursault and Monthelie, where limestone and marl soils, cool valley breezes and modest elevations are ideal for finely structured Pinot Noir. Domaine Truchetet typically farms their parcels with close attention to soil life and vine balance, often using sustainable or lutte raisonnée practices, with careful canopy management to achieve even ripening. Grapes are picked by hand at optimal maturity, sorted rigorously in the vineyard and at the winery to retain only the healthiest clusters. Vinification generally involves a gentle destemming with a proportion of whole clusters retained depending on the vintage, followed by a cool maceration and fermentation with native or carefully selected yeasts. Extraction is kept moderate through pump-overs or gentle punch-downs, aiming for finesse over power. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—often with a restrained use of new oak—to preserve the purity of fruit and highlight the underlying mineral character of Auxey-Duresses before being bottled with minimal intervention.

Food & Serving
This Auxey-Duresses pairs beautifully with refined yet comforting dishes: roast chicken with herbs, duck breast with cherry or berry glaze, veal or pork tenderloin, mushroom risottos, and lighter game birds such as quail or guinea fowl. It also works well with Burgundian classics like coq au vin, charcuterie, and soft to semi-soft cheeses such as Brie, Reblochon, or mild Époisses. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and fresh acidity. A short decant of 20–30 minutes is beneficial in its youth to open the bouquet and soften the tannins; alternatively, pour into large Burgundy stems and allow the wine to evolve in the glass.

Producer
Domaine Truchetet is a family-run estate in Burgundy that has been steadily gaining recognition for precise, terroir-driven wines crafted from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Over recent years, a younger generation has brought renewed energy, focusing on meticulous vineyard work and thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking that shines a spotlight on individual parcels like Le Plain de Lugny. Rooted in the traditions of the Côte d’Or yet open to modern best practices, the domaine has become known for wines that are both accessible in youth and capable of graceful aging. Their growing reputation among sommeliers and Burgundy enthusiasts underscores their significance as a producer to watch in the region, particularly for appellations that offer superb value relative to the more famous neighboring villages.
