Description

Domaine Petit-Roy’s Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Goudelettes 2022 is a refined, modern take on white Burgundy that never loses sight of its classic roots. Crafted from Chardonnay in a village better known for its reds, it offers a strikingly pure, textural expression of Savigny’s cooler-side charm. Subtle, noble reduction, seamless oak integration and vibrant acidity make this a standout for drinkers who appreciate both traditional elegance and contemporary precision.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2022 shows a pale to medium lemon hue with a delicate brightness that hints at its freshness and energy. The nose opens with a touch of noble reduction—think struck flint and smoky mineral tones—before releasing layers of citrus zest, white peach, green apple skin and a whisper of toasted hazelnut and cream from the oak. On the palate, the wine is broad and mouthfilling without ever feeling heavy. A lively, beautifully pitched acidity runs through the core, lifting notes of lemon curd, ripe pear and stone fruit, while a fine, chalky texture and gentle oak spice give it shape and length. The wood is perceptible but restrained, framing rather than masking the fruit, and the finish is long, pure and saline, inviting another sip. Enjoyable now for its youthful vibrancy and tension, it should develop added complexity, nuttiness and depth over the next 5–7 years, potentially longer under good cellaring conditions.

Production
Les Goudelettes lies in Savigny-lès-Beaune in the Côte de Beaune, on soils that mix limestone and clay with good drainage—ideal for giving Chardonnay both minerality and volume. Domaine Petit-Roy, led by Seiichi Saito, farms and sources fruit with a strong emphasis on organic, low-intervention practices, favoring careful hand work in the vineyard and selective hand harvesting at optimal ripeness to preserve natural acidity. In the cellar, Petit-Roy follows a minimalist philosophy: gentle pressing, native yeast fermentations, and élevage in carefully chosen barrels with only a modest proportion of new oak to keep the oak imprint subtle. Sulphur is used sparingly and interventions are kept to a minimum to allow the character of Savigny and the 2022 vintage to shine clearly in the glass.

Food & Serving
This Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Goudelettes 2022 is a versatile partner at the table, particularly well-suited to refined, simply prepared dishes. Try it with seafood such as seared scallops, grilled turbot, or roasted cod with beurre blanc; it also shines with roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, or richer poultry dishes featuring morels or truffle. For cheese, pair with creamy styles like Comté, Beaufort, or mild goat cheeses. Serve lightly chilled, ideally around 11–13°C (52–55°F), to let both the freshness and texture express themselves. A short decant of 20–30 minutes, or simply opening the bottle a little in advance, can help the reduction unwind and bring out the full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Domaine Petit-Roy is the personal project of Japanese-born winemaker Seiichi Saito, who trained and worked with some of Burgundy’s most respected domaines before establishing his own label in the Côte de Beaune. Based near Chorey-lès-Beaune, Petit-Roy has quickly gained a reputation among insiders for expressive, finely crafted wines that bridge classic Burgundian terroir with a sensitive, low-intervention touch. Working as a small-scale domaine and micro-négociant, Saito focuses on organically farmed parcels and meticulous detail in both vineyard and cellar, producing wines that are precise, vibrant and deeply site-driven. In a short time, Domaine Petit-Roy has become one of the more exciting rising names in Burgundy, particularly prized by those seeking purity, energy and nuance over sheer power.
