Description

Domaine Petit-Roy Savigny-lès-Beaune 2020 is a refined, terroir-driven red Burgundy that captures the elegance and energy of Pinot Noir from this classic Côte de Beaune village. Crafted in tiny quantities, it balances purity of fruit with a beautifully transparent expression of site. This cuvée reflects the domaine’s thoughtful, low-intervention approach and the excellent growing conditions of the 2020 vintage in Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a luminous, medium ruby color with a delicate translucence typical of fine Pinot Noir. The nose is expressive yet poised, opening with red cherries, wild strawberries, and red currants, layered with notes of rose petals, dried herbs, and a subtle hint of forest floor and fine spice. On the palate, Savigny-lès-Beaune 2020 is poised and precise, with crunchy red fruit, vibrant acidity, and silky, finely grained tannins. Flavors of ripe cherry, cranberry, and raspberry are joined by hints of orange zest, gentle earthiness, and a touch of savory spice, giving the wine both charm and structure. The finish is long, fresh, and mineral-driven, suggesting a wine that drinks beautifully now but will gain complexity over the next 5–8 years under good cellaring conditions.

Production
Domaine Petit-Roy works primarily with organically farmed parcels on the gentle slopes of Savigny-lès-Beaune, where limestone-rich soils with clay and marl provide both finesse and depth to Pinot Noir. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure careful selection of healthy, optimally ripe berries, preserving the natural balance of fruit, acidity, and tannin. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified with a light touch—often incorporating a proportion of whole clusters for aromatic lift and structure—followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in Burgundy barrels (with a restrained use of new oak) to respect the purity of the fruit and terroir, and is bottled with minimal intervention to retain its precision and vibrancy.

Food & Serving
This Savigny-lès-Beaune pairs beautifully with delicate yet flavorful dishes such as roast chicken with herbs, duck breast, veal, mushroom risotto, or charcuterie and soft, rind cheeses like Brie or Reblochon. It also works well with lightly spiced dishes and earthy vegetable preparations featuring beetroot, lentils, or roasted root vegetables. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and freshness. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, but it can also be enjoyed by the glass as it evolves in the bottle.

Producer
Domaine Petit-Roy is a rising star in Burgundy, known for its artisanal scale, meticulous vineyard work, and commitment to low-intervention winemaking. Based in the Côte de Beaune, the estate works with carefully chosen parcels and growers, many of whom farm organically, to craft wines that are precise, expressive, and true to their origins. In a relatively short time, Petit-Roy has attracted attention from Burgundy enthusiasts for its elegant, energetic style and its sensitive handling of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The domaine’s focus on terroir transparency, gentle extraction, and minimal cellar manipulation has made it a noteworthy name in the new generation of Burgundy producers, particularly for those seeking purity and drinkability without sacrificing depth.
