Description
Domaine Henri Prudhon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 2023 is a refined Chardonnay from one of Puligny’s smallest and most characterful parcels. Sourced from just 0.088 hectares of 60-year-old vines high on the slope, it combines precision, minerality, and quiet concentration in a style that reflects both site and the domaine’s exacting standards.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, pale-golden colour in the glass. On the nose, it opens with citrus, white flowers, and a subtle hint of toasted bread, layered over a distinctly mineral edge.
The palate is generous yet finely tuned, offering ripe fruit, gentle spice, and a long, saline-mineral finish. Its balance of texture, freshness, and depth suggests excellent aging potential over the next 10–15 years, during which it will gain further complexity and nuance.
Production
La Garenne lies high on the Puligny-Montrachet slope and faces east-southeast, giving the vines ideal morning sun and helping preserve freshness in the grapes. The clay-limestone soils contribute both structure and a marked mineral signature, while the old vines provide naturally low yields and concentrated fruit. Fermentation and lees aging take place in oak barrels for 15–18 months, with about 50% new oak to add depth and shape without masking the wine’s natural energy.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for lobster, grilled fish, poultry in creamy sauces, or delicate cheeses. Serve cool, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to खुल fully—though it is also beautifully expressive straight from the bottle.
