Description

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru 2006 is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most admired terroirs. Les Cras is prized for its limestone-rich soils and elevated position, which lend the wine a striking sense of precision, minerality, and aromatic finesse. The cool 2006 vintage adds lift and structure, making this a beautifully composed Premier Cru with excellent cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the graceful clarity typical of Chambolle-Musigny, with bright ruby color and subtle depth. The nose opens with red cherry, redcurrant, and violet, layered with gentle spice and a distinct mineral edge from the Les Cras terroir. On the palate, the wine is poised and elegant, with fresh acidity, silky tannins, and a finely etched fruit profile. There is admirable balance between its delicate red fruit, floral tones, and savory complexity, leading to a long, persistent finish. While already appealing now, it should continue to gain nuance and dimension over the next 10–15 years.

Production
Les Cras is a notable Premier Cru site in Chambolle-Musigny, where limestone soils help shape wines of perfume, tension, and finesse. The 2006 grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected, then fermented using natural yeasts in a traditional Burgundian vinification approach. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, to add structure and subtle complexity without overshadowing the purity of the Pinot Noir.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that complement its elegance rather than overpower it, such as roast duck, quail, game birds, mushroom risotto, or veal with a light sauce. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if opened young to allow the aromas to unfold; for a bottle with age, a brief aeration may be enough.

Producer
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the respected names in Chambolle-Musigny, known for producing wines of exceptional precision, purity, and site expression. The domaine has earned a strong reputation in Burgundy for its disciplined vineyard work and restrained winemaking, and its Premier Cru bottlings are especially sought after by collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts.
