Description
Domaine Georges Noëllat Les Tuvilains Beaune 2023 is a vibrant Premier Cru red Burgundy that captures the ripe charm of the 2023 vintage with a refined, modern touch. Picked just before the autumn rains, this cuvée balances generous fruit with enough freshness to remain wonderfully drinkable over the coming decade. As one of Beaune’s respected Premier Cru sites, Les Tuvilains offers a seductive, approachable expression of Burgundy for those who appreciate nuance without austerity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Les Tuvilains shows a bright, translucent ruby hue with youthful purple reflections at the rim, signaling its energy and primary fruit. The bouquet is slightly more exotic than the 2022, with vivid red cherry and wild strawberry layered over hints of raspberry coulis, rose petals, and a touch of sweet spice—think star anise, gentle clove, and a faint suggestion of sandalwood.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a supple, flowing texture and fine-grained tannins that frame the fruit rather than dominate it. Juicy red berries and ripe cherry define the core, supported by subtle notes of pomegranate, blood orange zest, and a whisper of forest floor as it opens in the glass. The finish is rounded and fruit-forward, with enough acidity to keep it lively and food-friendly. Enjoyable in its youth for its generous, charming style, it should drink beautifully over the next 8–10 years, gaining a bit more aromatic complexity while remaining accessible.
Production
Les Tuvilains is a Beaune Premier Cru climat situated on well-drained slopes with a mix of limestone and clay–marl soils, ideal for expressing the finesse and perfume of Pinot Noir. In 2023, the fruit for this wine was harvested before the late-season rains, preserving ripeness and clarity of flavor despite the vintage’s generosity. Grapes are typically picked by hand, carefully sorted, and vinified parcel by parcel to respect the individuality of the site. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, with a gentle extraction to maintain fine tannins and aromatic lift, followed by aging in French oak barrels—often with a judicious use of new oak—to refine texture and add subtle spice without overwhelming the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Beaune Premier Cru is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast with cherries, herb-crusted pork loin, or veal in a light jus. It also works well with dishes featuring mushrooms, truffled poultry, or creamy soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux and Reblochon. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its fragrance and freshness. A short decant of 30–45 minutes in youth can help the aromatics unfurl, while simply opening the bottle a bit in advance will be enough if you prefer a more delicate evolution in the glass.
