Description
Domaine Etienne Sauzet’s Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 2015 is a beautiful expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated white-wine terroirs. Elegant, precise, and layered, it captures the hallmark finesse of Puligny-Montrachet while adding the depth and energy of a standout Premier Cru site. This is a wine for collectors and Chardonnay lovers who appreciate both pedigree and subtle complexity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden hue that hints at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with white flowers, citrus zest, green apple, pear, and a delicate toasted-nut character, lifted by fine mineral notes.
On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, combining a supple mid-palate with vibrant acidity and a refined, chalky finish. Subtle vanilla and oak spice from barrel aging add depth without overwhelming the fruit. The 2015 vintage has excellent aging potential and should continue to gain nuance over the coming years, developing more honeyed and nutty complexity.
Production
Les Referts is a Premier Cru vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet, planted on clay-and-limestone soils that give the wine its signature mineral tension and fine structure. The 2015 vintage benefited from ideal growing conditions, allowing the grapes to reach excellent ripeness while retaining freshness. Harvesting is done carefully to protect fruit quality, and vinification follows traditional Burgundy methods with fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak to add texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for refined dishes such as grilled white fish, lobster, scallops, and shellfish, as well as poultry in creamy sauces or with mushrooms. Serve it lightly chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider decanting for 20–30 minutes if you want to allow the aromatics to fully unfold.
