Description

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 is a refined, classically styled red Burgundy from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most coveted crus. Sourced from the revered En la Chapelle climat, this wine combines concentration and finesse with an alluring aromatic complexity. It’s a standout choice for collectors and Burgundy lovers seeking a Grand Cru that balances early charm with serious aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Chapelle-Chambertin shows a luminous, deep ruby color with youthful purple reflections at the rim. The nose opens with seductive aromas of sweet red berries and ripe cherries, intertwined with notes of orange zest, delicate peony florals, and a refined spice profile that hints at star anise, clove, and a touch of underbrush. As it breathes, the bouquet gains in complexity, revealing subtle hints of earth and mineral tones that speak clearly of its Gevrey-Chambertin origins. On the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied Grand Cru that is both layered and concentrated, yet perfectly poised. Silky, finely woven tannins frame a core of juicy red and black cherries, wild strawberries, and redcurrants, lifted by lively, refreshing acidity. There is a subtle citrus brightness that echoes the orange peel on the nose, along with a gentle savoriness and mineral drive on the long, persistent finish. While already remarkably expressive in its youth, this 2022 has the structure and energy to evolve beautifully over 10–20 years, gaining further complexity and tertiary nuances with careful cellaring.

Production
Chapelle-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s historic Grand Crus, lying just below the storied Clos de Bèze and benefiting from a gentle east-facing slope, well-drained marl and limestone soils, and a cool, airy exposition that preserves freshness. Domaine Drouhin-Laroze sources the fruit from the En la Chapelle climat, a site known for producing wines of precision and floral elegance. Pinot Noir is harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with careful sorting to ensure only pristine clusters reach the cellar. Vinification typically involves a traditional Burgundian approach: gentle extraction to respect the finesse of the terroir, followed by élevage in French oak barrels (a proportion of which are new) to add depth and fine-grained structure without overwhelming the purity of the fruit. The result is a Grand Cru that reflects both the pedigree of Chapelle-Chambertin and the restrained, terroir-driven style of the domaine.

Food & Serving
This Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 pairs beautifully with refined dishes that highlight its elegance and complexity: think roast duck with cherry or orange glaze, pigeon or quail, veal with morel mushrooms, or lamb racks with herb crust. It also complements game birds, delicate truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to showcase its aromatic detail and textural finesse. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to open up the nose and soften the tannins; with age, a gentle decant shortly before serving is sufficient to remove any sediment and allow the wine to express its full Grand Cru character.

Producer
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze is a respected, family-run estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin, with roots in Burgundy dating back to the mid-19th century. Over generations, the family has assembled an enviable collection of prime vineyard holdings, including several Grand Cru parcels in some of the Côte de Nuits’ most prestigious appellations. Their style emphasizes clarity of fruit, precision, and an authentic expression of terroir, making them a reference point for classically styled red Burgundy. With a strong reputation in the region and a track record of producing ageworthy, finely balanced wines, Drouhin-Laroze holds a significant place among the leading domaines of Gevrey-Chambertin.
