Tasting Notes
Stephen Tanzer describes the wine as having a high-toned, aromatic nose with orange zest and clove. On the palate, it is sweet and expressive, showing floral notes of peach and orange, with a rich, persistent finish. There is a youthful energy to the wine, giving it both generosity and structure. With bottle age, the wine should continue to develop more complex tertiary notes while retaining its aromatic lift and concentration. It has the depth and balance to age gracefully, especially given the pedigree of the producer and the concentration typical of the best Burgundian Chardonnay.

Production
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is based in Meursault and owns nearly 14 hectares across some of the finest Premier Cru and Cru appellations in Meursault and Volnay. The estate works organically, with biodynamic principles also guiding vineyard care, and low yields are a consistent priority. Vines average around 40 years of age, and the domaine’s approach to winemaking is shaped by the needs of each vintage, always with an emphasis on purity and site expression.

Food & Serving
Serve this Chardonnay with rich poultry dishes, lobster, scallops, roast turbot, or creamy mushroom-based recipes. It will also work beautifully with aged Comté, Brie de Meaux, or dishes featuring butter, herbs, and subtle spice. Best served slightly chilled, around 10–12°C, and decanting is optional but can help the wine open up if it seems restrained on opening.

Founded in 1869 by the Boch family and renamed after the marriage of Marie Boch to Comte Jules Lafon in 1994, Domaine des Comtes Lafon has become one of Burgundy’s benchmark producers. Dominique Lafon took charge in 1984 and helped elevate the domaine even further, while restoring ownership of the family’s vineyards and strengthening its reputation for outstanding white and red wines. The estate is widely regarded as one of the very best in Bourgogne, with a particular legacy for exceptional Chardonnay.
