Domaine de la Mordorée’s Lirac Blanc Reine des Bois 2020 is a rare and characterful white from the southern Rhône, showing both richness and freshness in equal measure. Produced from a classic blend of local varieties and crafted by one of Lirac’s most respected names, it offers an expressive take on a region better known for its reds. Its old vines and partial oak fermentation add depth, texture, and a sense of place.

Tasting Notes
Golden in the glass, this wine opens with generous aromas of white stone fruit, ripe apricot, peach, and hints of tropical fruit. The palate is broad and rounded, with a creamy, layered feel balanced by a lively streak of freshness that carries through the finish. It has the concentration and structure to develop further over the next few years, gaining more complexity and nuance with time. While already appealing for its fruit-forward charm, it should reward short to medium-term cellaring.

Production
The vines grow in sandy soils topped with large stones, a terroir that helps retain heat during the day and release it slowly at night, encouraging full ripeness. The grapes are hand-harvested from vines over 40 years old, and the cuvée is made from Grenache, Clairette, Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Picpoul, and a small portion of other local varieties. A part of the must is fermented in oak vats, adding extra depth and subtle complexity to the final wine.

Food & Serving
This white Lirac is an excellent match for shellfish, grilled fish, and seafood dishes with a little richness, as well as dry cheeses. Serve it well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up its aromatic profile if served young.
