Domaine de la Janasse’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2017 is a powerful, characterful Rhône red from one of the appellation’s most respected family estates. Made from old vines and shaped by a mosaic of terroirs, it combines depth, concentration, and classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape richness in a style that has helped make La Janasse one of the region’s standout names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows deep, насыщenoften opaque ruby color, hinting at its intensity and structure. The nose is generous and ripe, with layers of cherry, blueberry, and other dark fruits, supported by warm spice and a subtle, savory complexity from its traditional élevage. The palate is broad and full, yet supple, with a creamy texture that carries the wine’s impressive concentration. Mature fruit is framed by firm tannins and a long, lingering finish, giving the wine the substance to age gracefully for many years.

Production
The fruit comes from old-vine parcels spread across more than sixty plots, creating a true mosaic of terroirs that adds complexity and nuance to the final blend. Because of the challenging soils and terrain, the grapes are harvested by hand, then vinified in a classic style that respects the character of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is matured for 40% in new oak barrels and 60% in foudres, balancing richness with structure and preserving the expression of the vineyard.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for hearty dishes such as roast lamb, game, braised beef, or richly seasoned Mediterranean cuisine. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least an hour is recommended to allow the wine to खुलen up and show its full aromatic range and supple depth.

Producer
Domaine de la Janasse was founded in 1967 by Aimé Sabon, who left the cooperative system to create his own estate in Courthézon, naming it after the family property, La Janasse. Starting with 15 hectares, the domaine has grown to around 90 hectares and is now run by the Sabon family, with Christophe and Isabelle continuing the work. Thanks to its fragmented holdings and consistently high quality, La Janasse has become one of the jewels of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a benchmark producer in the southern Rhône.
