Domaine de Ferrand, Cotes du Rhone Cuvée Antique Vieilles Vignes, 2022

Domaine de Ferrand’s Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Antique Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a richly textured Rhône red with the kind of depth and character that only old vines can deliver. Built around approximately 50% Grenache from 60- to 100-year-old vines, it blends ripe fruit, herbal lift, and a distinctly southern French sense of balance and history.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, with dark berries, fresh lavender, and a touch of dried herbs adding nuance and complexity. On the palate, the wine is generous and full-bodied, combining ripe fruit with a firm, well-defined structure. The acidity keeps it lively, while the mature, silky tannins provide length and backbone. It is concentrated without feeling heavy, and should continue to evolve well over the next few years.

Production
Cuvée Antique comes from classic Rhône terroir, where the soils of rolled stones (galets roulés) help retain heat and promote ripeness, echoing the style and feel of nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The blend is based on old-vine Grenache and supported by Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, and the local variety Vaccarèse. It is made using traditional vinification methods and aged for 12 months in cement, preserving freshness and the pure expression of the fruit and terroir.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for hearty, flavour-packed dishes such as rabbit braised in a classic French style with bacon and prunes, guinea fowl with mushrooms, or grilled meats with deep, rich sauces. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
