Description
Domaine de Beaurenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Bio 2021 is a benchmark southern Rhône red that marries Mediterranean power with striking precision and finesse. In an appellation famous for richness and opulence, this certified-organic cuvée stands out for its clarity of fruit, elegant structure and absence of jammy heaviness. Drawing on generations of family know‑how in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Beaurenard captures the historic depth of the terroir in a wine that feels both classic and refreshingly refined.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with a vibrant rim, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with dark berry fruit—blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum—layered with earthy nuances, subtle tobacco leaf, dried herbs and a refined touch of well-integrated oak. There are no overripe or cooked notes here; instead, the aromatics remain lifted, pure and complex.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, yet remarkably poised. Juicy dark fruits are framed by a fine, lively acid spine that keeps everything taut and energetic. Silky, filigree tannins provide structure without harshness, supporting a core of ripe fruit and a deep, savoury spice character—think garrigue herbs, pepper and a hint of licorice. The finish is long, layered and persistent, with a complex, earthy-spicy resonance that lingers. Enjoyable now with a brief aeration, this 2021 has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years, gaining further nuance and tertiary complexity.
Production
Sourced from the sun-drenched, wind-swept terraces of southern Rhône’s famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this wine reflects the region’s classic mix of galets roulés (large rounded stones), clay and sandy soils that store heat by day and release it through the cool nights. Domaine de Beaurenard farms its vineyards organically (Bio) and biodynamically, favouring low yields, meticulous hand harvesting and strict selection in the vineyard to ensure only perfectly ripe grapes are used. The blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah/Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Cinsault is vinified traditionally: gentle extraction to avoid heaviness, followed by élevage in a combination of large foudres and barrels, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity while preserving its pure fruit and avoiding overt oak dominance.
Food & Serving
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Bio 2021 is a natural partner for hearty, flavourful dishes such as roast lamb with rosemary, slow-cooked beef or game stews, grilled venison, and duck with Mediterranean herbs. It also shines alongside mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Comté or Manchego. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both its fruit and spice; in warmer rooms, a brief chill before serving is beneficial. Decant for 45–60 minutes in its youth to allow the aromatics and texture to fully unfurl; as the wine matures, a shorter aeration of 20–30 minutes will be sufficient.
Producer
Domaine de Beaurenard is a historic, family-run estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with roots stretching back several generations in one of France’s most revered wine villages. Over time, the domaine has become a reference point for the appellation, known for crafting wines that express both the sun-drenched power and the underlying elegance of the southern Rhône. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region, Beaurenard has earned widespread recognition for its commitment to terroir-driven, precise and ageworthy wines that stand out for their balance rather than sheer muscle. Today, the estate is regarded as one of the key ambassadors of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s more refined, contemporary style, while remaining firmly anchored in its long tradition.
