Description
Domaine Collines’ Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 2022 is a polished and expressive red wine from the northern Rhône, crafted in one of France’s most revered appellations for Syrah. This 2022 vintage balances depth and finesse, showcasing the steep hillside vineyards and classic Côte-Rôtie character that enthusiasts seek out. It’s a wine that speaks clearly of place: concentrated yet lifted, and built for both near-term pleasure and graceful development in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Côte-Rôtie 2022 shows a deep ruby to purple hue with bright, youthful reflections at the rim. The nose is pure and focused, offering layers of blackberries, dark cherries, and wild forest fruits, woven together with violet, cracked black pepper, smoked meat, and a subtle touch of dried herbs and graphite.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a refined structure. Silky yet firm tannins frame a core of dark fruit—blackcurrant and black cherry—lifted by floral notes, black olive tapenade, and a gentle smokiness typical of the appellation. Fresh acidity keeps everything lively and precise, while a long, savory finish reveals hints of spice and mineral undertones. Enjoyable now with a bit of aeration, this 2022 has the balance and structure to evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years, gaining complexity and nuance with time in bottle.
Production
Hailing from Côte-Rôtie in the northern Rhône, this wine comes from steep, terraced vineyards rooted in a mix of schist and mica-rich soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. The climate here is continental with a strong Rhône influence, giving warm, sunny days and cooler nights that help Syrah ripen slowly while preserving freshness. Grapes are typically harvested by hand due to the dramatic slopes, allowing for careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, traditional Rhône methods are favored: gentle extraction, fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, and maturation in oak—often a mix of older and a small proportion of newer barrels—to polish the tannins without overwhelming the wine’s aromatic purity and mineral backbone.
Food & Serving
This Côte-Rôtie is a natural match for rich, savory dishes. Think roasted lamb with herbs, duck breast, game birds, or slow-braised beef, as well as hearty dishes like cassoulet and mushroom-based stews. It also pairs beautifully with grilled vegetables, charcuterie, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C; if the wine is young, decant for 45–60 minutes to allow the aromatics to open up and the tannins to soften. As it gains a few years of bottle age, a shorter decant—20–30 minutes—will usually be enough to let the wine fully express its complexity.
Producer
Domaine Collines brings the heritage and prestige of Côte-Rôtie into focus, working in one of the Rhône’s most sought-after appellations. The hillsides here have been planted to vines since Roman times, and today the area is recognized worldwide for producing some of the most elegant and age-worthy Syrah-based wines. By working closely with select vineyard parcels and emphasizing careful, hands-on work in both vineyard and cellar, the domaine contributes to the region’s reputation for wines that combine aromatic intensity with finesse. Their Côte-Rôtie bottlings underscore why the northern Rhône continues to be a benchmark for serious collectors and lovers of distinctive, terroir-driven reds.
