Domaine Clos Frantin Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 is a superb expression of one of Burgundy’s most legendary vineyards, showing both the generosity of the lower slopes and the structure of the upper climats. Crafted by Albert Bichot from Pinot Noir grown in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, it combines Grand Cru depth, precision, and finesse in a style that reflects the historic prestige of Clos de Vougeot.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2017 Clos de Vougeot typically shows a deep ruby colour with youthful brightness. The nose opens with a layered bouquet of wild red and black berries, blackberries, herbs, and a touch of floral freshness, gradually giving way with aeration to hints of chocolate, tobacco, and tea. On the palate, it is full-flavoured and structured, yet never heavy or rustic. The wine balances ripe fruit, refined tannins, and a long, polished finish, with the kind of depth that unfolds slowly and rewards patience. While already expressive, it has the concentration and structure to age beautifully for many years, developing more tertiary complexity over time.

Production
Clos-de-Vougeot is a highly distinctive terroir, and Domaine Clos-Frantin’s parcel spans both the lower and upper parts of the vineyard, allowing the wine to capture the fruitiness of the lower section and the firmer structure of the upper slopes. The domaine’s vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges are organically certified, with compost and ploughing replacing herbicides and synthetic fertilisers, and strict pruning used to keep yields low and quality high. Vinification is carried out with minimal intervention, and the wine is moved by gravity before ageing for 12 to 18 months in carefully selected French oak barrels, chosen to add subtle complexity without masking the character of the site.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, game birds, mushroom risotto, or truffled poultry. It also works beautifully with soft, earthy cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if enjoying it young, as aeration helps reveal its full aromatic depth and texture.
