Description
Domaine Chanzy Bourgogne Aligoté Les Fortunés 2023 is a fresh, sleek, and quietly classy white Burgundy that shows just how compelling Aligoté can be in the right hands. Sourced from Chanzy’s own vineyards in Bouzeron and crafted by winemaker Max Blondelle, it offers superb value and plenty of Burgundy character without the usual price tag.
Tasting Notes
Pale and bright in the glass, it opens with an inviting bouquet of pear, red apple, citrus, acacia honey, and delicate floral notes. The nose feels clean and lifted, with a subtle mineral edge that gives the wine focus and finesse.
On the palate, the wine is lively and precise, with fresh orchard fruit taking center stage, supported by crisp acidity and a mineral-driven finish. It is designed for early enjoyment rather than long aging, but its balance and structure should keep it appealing over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from Chanzy’s own vineyards in Bouzeron, in the northern part of Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, where the soils help preserve freshness and give the wine its elegant, linear profile. The fruit is pressed and fermented before being matured in stainless steel, a choice that keeps the emphasis firmly on purity, vibrancy, and expressive fruit.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that works beautifully with seafood, shellfish, fresh salads, goat cheese, roast chicken, and light vegetable dishes. Serve it well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary—simply open and enjoy its freshness.
Producer
Domaine Chanzy was founded in 1974 by Daniel Chanzy in Bouzeron, with the ambition of showing that the wines of the Côte Chalonnaise could stand alongside the great names of Burgundy. Since being taken over in 2013 by a group of Burgundy wine lovers, the domaine has expanded significantly and now farms 163 hectares across the region, including Bouzeron, Rully, Givry, Mercurey, and parts of the Côte de Beaune. Under Max Blondelle, who became cellar master and winemaker in 2019, Chanzy has continued to build its reputation for skilled craftsmanship, sustainable vineyard work, and excellent value.
