Darioush Winery, Signature Cabernet Franc, 2019

Darioush Signature Cabernet Franc 2019 is a polished, terroir-driven red that shows exactly why Cabernet Franc can be so compelling in California’s best hillside sites. Crafted by winemaker Hope Goldie, it balances classic structure with aromatic finesse, drawing on fruit from high-elevation parcels on Mount Veeder with a contribution from Spring Mountain.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is deep, concentrated, and quietly commanding. The nose opens with dark berries, blackcurrant, and plum, layered with herbs, spice, and a subtle earthy edge that adds complexity without weight. The palate is full-bodied and firmly structured, with generous fruit framed by lively acidity and ripe, grippy tannins. French oak, especially from a high proportion of new barrels, brings an extra layer of spice and depth while keeping the grape’s natural character front and center. This is a Cabernet Franc with real aging potential, likely to evolve beautifully over the next several years.

Production
The fruit comes primarily from elevated parcels on Mount Veeder, with additional grapes from Spring Mountain, where cool, marine-influenced conditions and rocky soils encourage slow ripening and concentrated flavor development. The combination of altitude, stone-rich terrain, and long growing conditions gives the wine its tension, precision, and layered complexity. Aging in a high proportion of new French oak adds nuance and structure, supporting the wine’s natural depth rather than masking it.

Food & Serving
Serve with lamb, beef, or richly flavored dishes built around herbs and savory elements. A serving temperature of 16–18°C is ideal, and decanting for about 1 hour is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open up and soften its tannins.
