Description
Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde from E. Guigal is one of the benchmark wines of the Northern Rhône, offering a graceful yet powerful expression of Syrah from one of France’s most admired appellations. The cuvée brings together fruit from both the darker, more structured “Brune” slopes and the lighter, more perfumed “Blonde” terroirs, creating a wine known for balance, depth, and finesse. Since Guigal has long been a reference point in Côte-Rôtie, this bottle carries both regional character and a strong sense of tradition.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with purple highlights when young. The nose is layered and expressive, with blackberries, dark cherries, violet, black pepper, smoked meat, and subtle notes of olive, spice, and mineral complexity.
On the palate, the wine is concentrated and silky, combining ripe dark fruit with savory Syrah character, polished tannins, and a long, elegant finish. It has the structure to age beautifully over time, gaining more earthiness, spice, and complexity with several years in bottle.
Production
Côte-Rôtie is built on steep granite slopes in the Northern Rhône, where the combination of rocky soils, dramatic exposure, and cool continental influence helps produce wines of precision and aromatic intensity. Guigal sources fruit from both the Brune and Blonde sectors, which adds contrast in texture and expression to the final blend. The wine is traditionally vinified with careful extraction and aging in oak to preserve freshness while building depth and refinement.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with lamb, duck, venison, grilled beef, roast game birds, and dishes with mushrooms or black olives. It is best served slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and should ideally be decanted for at least one hour when young to allow its aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
E. Guigal is one of the most respected producers in the Rhône Valley, founded in 1946 and now synonymous with quality, precision, and consistency. The estate has played a major role in elevating the reputation of Northern Rhône appellations, especially Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Hermitage. Over the decades, Guigal has earned international acclaim for wines that combine concentration, elegance, and exceptional aging potential.
