Description
Cos d’Estournel 2013 is a classic Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates, combining prestige, structure, and remarkable finesse. As a 2ème Grand Cru Classé, it offers the depth and complexity collectors look for, while still reflecting the cooler, more restrained character of the 2013 vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with subtle garnet reflections. The nose is refined and layered, with dark cassis, black cherry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and hints of spice and earthy minerality.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with firm but polished tannins, bright acidity, and a core of black fruit balanced by savory notes of leather, gravel, and cocoa. The finish is long and composed, with the structure to continue evolving gracefully over the next decade or more.
Production
Sourced from the gravelly and clay-limestone soils of Saint-Estèphe, the estate benefits from a terroir well suited to producing structured, age-worthy wines with freshness and depth. The 2013 vintage, marked by a challenging growing season in Bordeaux, required careful vineyard management and precise harvesting to ensure optimal ripeness. Vinification at Cos d’Estournel is known for rigorous selection and meticulous cellar work, preserving purity of fruit and the estate’s signature elegance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game dishes, and rich mushroom preparations. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromas to open and the tannins to soften.
Producer
Cos d’Estournel is one of the most celebrated estates in Saint-Estèphe, founded in the early 19th century and long recognized for its distinctive style and architectural grandeur. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has earned a strong reputation for producing wines of power, precision, and longevity. Today, it remains one of the standout names of the Left Bank, admired by collectors worldwide.
