Cortes do Tua Branco 2023 is the estate’s elegant entry into the world of Douro white wine, offering refined fruit, balance, and a clear sense of place. Crafted by two young winemakers with a strong commitment to thoughtful, mostly organic viticulture, it reflects both the tradition of the Douro and a modern, precise approach to winemaking.

Tasting Notes
Pale and bright in the glass, this white opens with a clean, fresh aromatic profile marked by orchard fruit, citrus, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is harmonious and well-balanced, with lively freshness, delicate texture, and a mineral edge that gives the wine extra definition. The wine’s purity and careful lees ageing lend it a little more depth and roundness than a simple everyday white, while still keeping the style sleek and restrained. It is best enjoyed while young for its freshness, though the structure and balance should allow it to develop gracefully over the short to medium term.

Production
The grapes come from parcels in Douro Superior, near Pombal de Ansiães in Carrazeda de Ansiães, where the white vineyards sit between 500 and 700 meters above sea level. The vines benefit from excellent sun exposure on the left bank of the Tua river, while the estate’s parcel-based approach and hand harvesting help preserve fruit quality and vineyard character. After harvest, the must undergoes cold fermentation in stainless steel, followed by ageing on the lees to add texture and complexity. The winemaking is guided by a careful, low-intervention philosophy, with attention to clean fruit expression and a balanced, elegant final style.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile white wine that works beautifully with grilled fish, seafood, shellfish, light pasta dishes, sushi, and fresh salads. Serve it cool but not overly cold, ideally around 10–12°C, to let the aromatics and texture come through. Decanting is not necessary.

Cortes do Tua is the ambitious project of Duarte da Costa and Ana de Almeida, two young winemakers who combine international experience with a deep respect for Douro’s winemaking heritage. Based in Douro Superior, the estate works as organically as possible and harvests everything by hand, with a strong focus on the vineyards themselves. Their work has earned attention for producing wines that are clean, harmonious, and elegant, with a clear identity rooted in the landscape around the Tua river. The estate’s parcel-by-parcel vineyard approach and commitment to quality have helped establish Cortes do Tua as a noteworthy modern voice in the region.
