Description

Clos L’Eglise Pomerol 2008 is a classic expression of one of Bordeaux’s most admired right-bank appellations, combining depth, finesse, and the plush texture Pomerol is known for. From a respected estate with a long-standing reputation, this vintage offers the polished character and cellar-worthy structure that make mature Pomerol so sought after.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Clos L’Eglise 2008 typically shows a deep ruby core with only the first signs of graceful evolution at the rim. The nose leans toward ripe black cherry, plum, blackberry, and subtle floral notes, layered with cedar, truffle, earth, and a touch of spice from bottle age. On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied with velvety tannins, a supple but structured frame, and a lingering finish that balances dark fruit, mineral undertones, and savory complexity. This vintage should continue to drink well now, while still offering a few more years of positive aging for those who enjoy fully developed Bordeaux.

Production
Clos L’Eglise is located in Pomerol, a small but prestigious Bordeaux appellation known for its clay and gravel soils that are especially well suited to Merlot-dominant wines. The 2008 vintage was shaped by careful vineyard work and selective harvesting, followed by traditional vinification designed to preserve purity of fruit, texture, and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and rich poultry preparations, as well as hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening now to allow the aromatics to open fully.
