Production

This mosaic of soils supports low yields—around 22 hl/ha in 2019—contributing to exceptional concentration and purity. The blend is approximately 45% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% other permitted local varieties, all sourced from estate vineyards and hand-harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness. As is traditional at Clos des Papes, the grapes are 100% destemmed to emphasize elegance over rusticity, then vinified parcel by parcel. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, with gentle extraction to preserve finesse, followed by aging in large, neutral foudres, allowing the complex terroir expression to shine without overt oak influence.
