Description
Clementi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016 is a rich, traditionally styled Amarone from the heart of Veneto, made from the classic local blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. Its appeal lies in the concentration and depth that come from the appassimento method, a hallmark of Amarone production that has helped define the wine’s reputation as one of Italy’s most celebrated reds.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with inviting intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with notes of ripe dark cherry, dried plum, fig, sweet spice, cocoa, and a touch of leather and tobacco as it opens.
On the palate, Amarone is known for its full body, velvety texture and impressive depth, and this wine follows that style with flavors of black cherry, raisin, dark chocolate and warming spice balanced by fresh acidity and a firm, structured finish. It has the concentration and balance to age gracefully for many years, gaining complexity and softer tannins over time.
Production
Produced in Valpolicella Classico in Veneto, this wine comes from a historic hillside zone known for its well-drained soils and favorable exposure, which help the native grapes achieve full ripeness. The fruit is typically harvested by hand, then partially dried before fermentation, concentrating flavor, sugar and texture. After vinification, the wine is usually matured in oak to build structure, polish tannins and add further complexity.
Food & Serving
Clementi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016 pairs beautifully with braised beef, game, roasted lamb, aged hard cheeses and rich mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least an hour to let the aromas unfold and the wine show its full depth.
Producer
Clementi is a respected producer in Valpolicella, known for crafting wines that reflect the traditions and character of the Classico zone. With a focus on native grapes and careful cellar work, the estate has earned appreciation for producing authentic Amarone wines that emphasize balance, elegance and regional identity.
