Description

Claude Dugat Bourgogne Rouge 2010 is a striking example of how much character a so-called entry-level Burgundy can have in the hands of a great producer. Sourced from small parcels just outside Gevrey-Chambertin, it captures the cool, chalky freshness and refined structure that have made Claude Dugat one of the most respected names in the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a bright, translucent ruby hue. The nose opens with red berries, cherry, raspberry, and subtle floral notes of violet, lifted by hints of herbs and gentle spice. The palate is lively and silky, with juicy fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a distinct mineral edge that adds length and precision. The 2010 vintage brings balance and finesse, while the wine’s underlying structure suggests it can continue to develop beautifully for several more years, gaining complexity and nuance.

Production
The fruit comes from small plots on the limestone-rich slopes near Gevrey-Chambertin, where the cooler site helps preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. Grapes are harvested by hand with strict sorting, then fermented naturally without cultured yeasts. The wine is aged for around one year in French oak barrels, with only a small proportion of new oak used to keep the focus on purity of fruit and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile Burgundy that pairs especially well with roast chicken, duck breast, mushroom dishes, guinea fowl, or lightly seasoned game. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–16°C, and consider decanting for 30 minutes if the bottle is still showing youthful tension.

Producer
Domaine Claude Dugat is a highly regarded family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for producing wines of precision, depth, and remarkable site expression. Though best known for its top village and grand cru holdings, the domaine’s more modest cuvées are crafted with the same uncompromising attention to detail, which has earned it a cult-like following among Burgundy enthusiasts.
