Tasting Notes
In the glass, Aluigi 2019 shows a luminous, deep ruby core with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both intensity and finesse. The nose is immediately expressive and layered: sweet pipe tobacco, cedar shavings and dried rose petals mingle with mint, wild herbs and a delicate dried cherry and red plum fruit profile. Subtle notes of forest floor and spice appear with air, adding dimension without ever feeling heavy. On the palate, the wine is tightly sculpted yet mouthfilling, with vibrant acidity and finely grained tannins giving it a firm, elegant backbone. Flavors of ripe red cherry, sour plum and blood orange are laced with savory tones of tobacco leaf, cedar, dried thyme and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long, vertical and refreshing, carried by mineral tension and a lingering echo of herbs and rose petals. While already captivating, this 2019 has the structure and energy to evolve beautifully over 10–15 years, gaining even more complexity with time in bottle.

Production
Aluigi is sourced from the Campo ai Peri parcel in the high-altitude hills of Panzano in Chianti, an area renowned for its rocky galestro and alberese soils that naturally limit yields and impart a distinct mineral edge to Sangiovese. Farmed organically with great attention to biodiversity, the vines are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic precision. In the cellar, the wine is vinified traditionally with gentle extraction to highlight purity and finesse rather than power. The 2019 vintage then spent two years in large 25 hL oak casks, followed by a further year resting in cement, a regime that polishes the tannins and enhances texture while keeping the fruit and terroir expression front and center.

Food & Serving
This Gran Selezione shines alongside classic Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, or slow-braised beef and wild boar ragù over pappardelle. It also complements aged pecorino, truffled dishes, and herb-roasted game birds. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Bordeaux stems to allow the aromas to unfold. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to soften the tannins and fully reveal the wine’s floral, herbal and tobacco nuances.
