Mondot de Château Troplong Mondot 2020 is a beautifully crafted second wine from one of Saint-Émilion’s most acclaimed estates, offering an elegant and immediately approachable expression of the château’s style. Made from 100% Merlot, it combines Burgundy-like finesse and juiciness with the depth, richness, and structure you expect from top Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, inviting color with plenty of ripe, polished fruit. The nose is marked by black cherry, plum, and subtle floral notes, lifted by hints of spice and well-integrated oak. On the palate, the wine is smooth and generous, with a supple texture, bright juiciness, and a refined fruit profile. It has the intensity and concentration of Saint-Émilion, but with a particularly graceful, approachable character. While already appealing now, it should also develop nicely over the coming years, gaining further complexity and softness.

Production
The wine comes from the exceptional terroir of Saint-Émilion, where clay and limestone soils help shape Merlot with both power and freshness. Ferreol du Fou’s Burgundian sensibility is clearly reflected in the winemaking, with a focus on precision, balance, and drinkability. The wine is aged for 60% in oak barrels that have been used once before, while the remaining 40% is matured in stainless steel to preserve purity and fruit expression.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile Bordeaux that works beautifully with roast duck, lamb, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and classic French cuisine. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to let the wine open fully.
