This terroir naturally limits yields, concentrating flavor and delivering the tension, minerality, and freshness that Peter Sisseck seeks. The vineyards, historically cultivated for generations, are being painstakingly converted to organic farming—a long, multi-year process that improves soil life and vine balance. Harvesting is done by hand, parcel by parcel, allowing only perfectly ripe and healthy clusters of Merlot and Cabernet Franc to make it into the winery. Sorting is meticulous, often in several stages, to ensure absolute purity of fruit. Vinification is deliberately gentle and detail-focused: fermentations typically take place in temperature-controlled vessels (traditionally stainless steel and/or concrete), with careful extraction through pump-overs or gentle punch-downs, never pushing the fruit into over-extraction. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels—often with a restrained proportion of new oak and judicious use of one-wine barrels—to add complexity and texture without overwhelming the finesse of the fruit and terroir signature. The goal is transparency and elegance rather than sheer power.

Chateau Rocheyron is a relatively young estate in its modern incarnation, but it is rooted in vineyards that have long been part of the fabric of Saint-Émilion. The property was reborn in 2009 as a joint venture between Danish-born winemaker Peter Sisseck—world-renowned for his cult Ribera del Duero wine, Pingus—and Spanish entrepreneur and wine lover Silvio Denz. When they acquired the 7 hectares of vines neighboring Château Laroque, the estate itself was in a tired state, with outdated cellar equipment and vineyards in need of rejuvenation. Sisseck initially vinified the early cuvées in borrowed corners of neighboring cellars, all while beginning the painstaking work of converting the vineyards to organic farming and rethinking viticulture from the ground up. His goal at Rocheyron has never been to chase the darkest color or highest alcohol, but rather to rediscover what he sees as Bordeaux’s true gift to the wine world: finesse, precision, and a delicate, vibrant freshness. Today, Chateau Rocheyron is regarded as one of the most exciting and increasingly sought-after Grand Cru properties in Saint-Émilion, uniting a top-tier terroir with the vision and craftsmanship of one of Europe’s most respected winemakers.
