Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2016 is a truly special release, presented here in an ultra-limited black wooden gift box direct from the château with six bottles. A classic Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, it combines power, precision and elegance in a style that has made Pichon Baron one of the region’s most admired “super seconds.”

Tasting Notes
The 2016 vintage shows a deep garnet-purple color and an immediately inviting, layered bouquet. Aromas of warm red and black currants, black plum preserves, truffle, tapenade, rose hip tea, sandalwood, Chinese five spice and a hint of iron ore create a nose that is both seductive and distinctly Médoc in character. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with firm structure and impressive mineral drive. Dark fruit, spice and subtle herbal notes unfold with great length, finishing long and precise. This is a wine with excellent aging potential and will continue to gain complexity over many years in bottle.

Production
Pichon Baron’s vineyards in Pauillac sit on well-drained gravel soils that give Cabernet Sauvignon the ideal conditions to ripen with depth and finesse. The estate’s vineyard work is exacting and adapted to each vintage, with all grapes hand-harvested and carefully sorted by variety, vine age and parcel. In the cellar, vinification is carried out with meticulous attention to detail, including extended maceration of three to four weeks and a careful malolactic fermentation before the best lots are transferred to barrel. The final Grand Vin is assembled through tasting and blending of more than 40 separate wines, allowing the estate to build a wine of precision, richness and balance.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for prime rib, entrecôte, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, or richly flavored dishes with truffle or wild mushroom sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.

Founded in 1689, Château Pichon Longueville Baron was later divided in the 19th century following the death of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, ultimately becoming one of Pauillac’s great historic estates. Classified as a 2nd Growth in the 1855 Classification, the château underwent a major revival in the 1980s after acquisition by AXA, with significant investment and leadership that lifted quality dramatically. Today it is regarded as one of Bordeaux’s benchmark estates and is widely celebrated as a “super second,” often challenging the very top names in the Médoc.
