Tasting Notes
The 2014 opens with a more restrained profile at first, then reveals layers of blackberry, cedar and graphite, with a medium-bodied palate marked by impressive depth, bright acidity and outstanding precision. The 2015 is more seductive and perfumed, offering medium to deep garnet-purple color, aromas of chocolate-covered cherries, crushed red currants, mulberries, baking spice and bay leaf, with fine, firm tannins and a long, elegant finish. The 2016 is darker and more mineral-driven, with aromas of warm red and black currants, black plum, truffle, tapenade, rose hip tea and sandalwood, framed by a structured, firm palate and a very long, herbal-inflected finish. All three wines are built for cellaring, with the 2014 drinking beautifully now and continuing to evolve, while the 2015 and 2016 have the structure and balance to age gracefully for decades. Expect the collection to reward extended maturation, especially for those who enjoy classic Pauillac complexity.

Production
Pichon Baron’s vineyards sit on the gravel-rich soils of Pauillac, where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc, producing wines with power, freshness and definition. The estate works with meticulous parcel-by-parcel vineyard care, adapting to each vintage’s weather conditions and harvesting entirely by hand, with clusters selected according to variety, vine age and plot. Vinification is highly precise, beginning with careful sorting and followed by temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration of around three to four weeks. After malolactic fermentation, only the best parcels are selected for the Grand Vin, which is aged in oak barrels in the cellar’s dim light to build structure, texture and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
These wines pair beautifully with classic premium dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison and aged hard cheeses. For the best experience, serve at around 16–18°C; decanting is recommended, especially for the 2015 and 2016, with one to two hours of air to fully open the aromas and soften the tannins.

Producer
Founded in 1689 and later divided after Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville’s death in 1850, Château Pichon Longueville Baron became one of Pauillac’s great estates and was classified as a 2nd Growth in 1855. The property regained its stature in the 1980s after acquisition by AXA, when major investment, modern production facilities, hand-harvesting and stricter grape selection transformed the quality of the wines. Today, Pichon Baron is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s finest and most reliable estates, producing wines that are often discussed alongside the region’s very top names.
