Château Phélan Ségur lies in the heart of Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where deep gravel soils layered over clay and limestone overlook the Gironde estuary. This terroir naturally favours Cabernet Sauvignon, giving structure and longevity, while Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contribute flesh, perfume and spice. The 2020 blend is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, sourced from meticulously tended vineyards often harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness. Grapes are carefully sorted before fermentation, which typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats to preserve fruit purity and finesse. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, a significant proportion new, for around 15–18 months, allowing the tannins to integrate and the aromatic complexity to deepen without overshadowing the character of the fruit or its Saint-Estèphe origins.
