Description

Château Montifaud XO Petite Champagne Ariane is a richly aged Cognac that showcases the elegance and depth the House of Montifaud is known for. Matured for around 30 years in the estate’s ‘Paradis’ cellar, it delivers the kind of complexity collectors and Cognac lovers look for, with a classic old-house style rooted in Petite and Grande Champagne fruit.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the deep amber-gold tones expected from long oak ageing. The nose opens with layers of dried apricot, fig, and walnut, followed by delicate floral notes that keep the aroma lifted and refined. On the palate it is full-bodied and generous, with the dried-fruit character returning in a smooth, seamless way. The oak ageing brings warmth, spice, and roundness, while the floral freshness adds balance and length. This is a Cognac with excellent ageing potential in bottle, though it is already beautifully integrated and ready to enjoy now.

Production
Château Montifaud is made by the Vallet family from grapes grown in some of the finest crus of the Cognac region, with a focus on Fine Champagne and Grande Champagne fruit. The blend is based mainly on Ugni Blanc, prized for its natural acidity, which is essential for creating a balanced base wine. After the still white wine is distilled in the family’s traditional copper pot stills in January, the eaux-de-vie are aged in oak for up to 30 years before being selected for bottling as XO.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed neat or in a tulip-shaped Cognac glass to concentrate the aromas. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, dried fruit desserts, crème brûlée, roasted nuts, or a fine cigar, and is also excellent as a contemplative after-dinner drink. Serve at room temperature and decanting is not necessary.

Producer
Château Montifaud is a respected family estate run by the Vallet family, with a strong reputation for traditional Cognac craftsmanship and long ageing. Their focus on vineyard quality, distillation in copper pot stills, and patient maturation has helped establish the house as a benchmark producer in the region. Over generations, the estate has become known for elegant, age-worthy Cognacs with a distinctly artisanal character.
