Description

Chateau Montifaud VSOP Petite Champagne Magnum is a beautifully balanced Cognac from the Vallet family, offering remarkable depth and finesse after extended aging in small oak barrels. Made from grapes sourced in Fine and Petite Champagne, it reflects the elegance of one of Cognac’s most respected crus, with a VSOP bottling that far exceeds the category’s usual aging minimum.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a warm, polished amber hue. The nose is expressive and refined, with candied citrus, leather, and a touch of light chocolate giving way to a more nuanced layer of dried fruit and subtle oak. On the palate, orange notes lead the way, followed by crisp apple, rose hip, and a gentle spice that adds structure without overpowering the fruit. The finish is long, harmonious, and well-rounded, with enough complexity to promise further enjoyment, though it is already beautifully mature and ready to drink now.

Production
This Cognac is crafted by the Vallet family using grapes harvested from some of the best vineyard areas in Cognac, particularly Fine and Petite Champagne. Ugni Blanc is the main grape variety, valued for its naturally high acidity, which is essential for producing a fresh, balanced distillate. After fermentation into a still white wine, the spirit is distilled in January on the family’s traditional copper pot stills, then matured for 8 to 10 years in small oak casks before being bottled as VSOP.

Food & Serving
This Cognac is ideal alongside dark chocolate, citrus desserts, tarte tatin, or a fine cigar after dinner. It should be served slightly below room temperature, ideally around 18°C, and does not require decanting, though a brief rest in the glass will help reveal its full aromatic range.

Producer
Chateau Montifaud is a long-established family producer guided by the Vallet family, with a strong reputation for traditional Cognac-making and careful long-term maturation. Based in the heart of the Cognac region, the house is particularly respected for its Petite Champagne expressions and its commitment to quality over volume, with this VSOP standing out for its above-average aging and elegant style.
