Description
Chateau Montifaud L10 – Premium Exception 10 ans is a beautifully rounded Cognac that showcases the Vallet family’s deep know-how and a style built on elegance rather than power. Part of the estate’s respected “L” series, this expression hints at around 10 years of cask ageing and blends spirits from Grande Champagne with parcels from surrounding Cognac areas for extra balance and complexity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the warm, inviting color you’d expect from extended oak ageing. The nose is soft and charming, with candied orange peel bringing freshness, alongside notes of apple, yellow flowers, and a gentle touch of oak. On the palate, it opens with generous texture and a distinctly floral profile before moving into dried fruit and subtle hints of chocolate.
The overall impression is one of harmony: rounded, supple, and very well integrated, with the long maturation adding depth without losing lift. It has enough structure to continue developing nicely in bottle, though it is already very expressive and complete today.
Production
This Cognac is crafted from distillates sourced mainly from Grande Champagne, the most prized cru in Cognac, blended with eaux-de-vie from neighboring areas to shape the final profile. Ugni Blanc is the principal grape, chosen for its naturally fresh acidity, and the still wine is distilled in January on the Vallet family’s traditional copper pot stills. After distillation, the spirit spends its first years in new oak before being transferred to older casks for slower, more nuanced maturation.
Food & Serving
Serve this Cognac slightly cool to room temperature, ideally around 18-20°C, to let the floral and dried-fruit notes unfold fully. It is excellent alongside dark chocolate, tarte tatin, crème brûlée, candied citrus desserts, or simply as a refined after-dinner dram. Decanting is not necessary.
