Description

Château Léoville Las Cases Collection Miroir “Millésimes Secrets” is a rare, collector-focused release from one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates. Presented in a beautifully crafted wooden case, this exclusive collection showcases a curated sequence of ‘secret’ vintages that reveal the evolving personality of Léoville Las Cases over two decades. Only 500 of these limited-edition cases have been produced, making it a highly coveted piece for serious Bordeaux lovers and collectors alike.

Tasting Notes
Each bottle in the Collection Miroir “Millésimes Secrets” offers a different snapshot of the estate’s character and the unique conditions of its respective year. From the more classical, structured expressions of 1988 and 1995, through the ripe, generous profile of 2003, to the fresh, poised and finely etched vintages such as 2001 and 2008, this set lets you experience the full spectrum of mature and maturing Left Bank Cabernet-based claret. Expect deep garnet hues with brick-tinted rims on the older bottles, giving way to slightly brighter, still-vibrant reds in the younger vintages. On the nose, you can anticipate a tapestry of classic Saint-Julien aromatics: blackcurrant, cedar, cigar box, graphite, tobacco leaf, dried violets and earthy truffle tones that become more pronounced with age. The palate across the set tends to be precise and firm, with the hallmark Léoville Las Cases tension: concentrated cassis and blackberry fruit, refined tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish. Earlier vintages like 1988 and 1995 are fully in their drinking window, showing tertiary complexity and silky textures, while 2001, 2003 and 2008 still have further evolution ahead. Properly stored, these wines possess excellent aging potential, especially 1995, 1998 and 2008, which can continue to develop added nuance over the coming decade.

Production
Situated in the northern part of Saint-Julien, adjacent to Pauillac and the legendary Lafite-Rothschild vineyards, Château Léoville Las Cases benefits from deep gravel soils over clay and sand, with excellent drainage and a temperate maritime climate shaped by the nearby Gironde estuary. The estate is renowned for meticulous vineyard management, with careful pruning, green harvesting when necessary, and hand-picking at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and balance. In the cellar, Léoville Las Cases has long favored a traditional yet exacting approach: gentle extraction, temperature-controlled fermentation, and aging in a high proportion of French oak barriques (a significant share of them new), tailored to each vintage. This collection brings together different years shaped by that same rigorous philosophy, allowing you to taste how site and season combine under a consistent, classical winemaking hand.

Food & Serving
Given the range of vintages, this collection offers remarkable versatility at the table. The more mature bottles (such as 1988 and 1995) pair beautifully with roasted lamb, braised beef, game birds, truffle-infused dishes, and aged hard cheeses, where their developed aromatics and softer tannins can truly shine. Slightly younger vintages like 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2008 are excellent alongside prime rib, entrecôte, duck breast, venison, or richly sauced mushroom dishes. Serve these wines at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for optimal expression. Older bottles benefit from a gentle, short decant of 30 minutes to remove sediment and allow the bouquet to open, while the younger vintages can profit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to soften the structure and enhance aromatic complexity.

Producer
Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the most historic and respected estates in the Médoc, tracing its roots back to the 17th century as part of the vast Léoville domain. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it is widely regarded today as one of the so-called “super seconds,” often rivaling the quality and longevity of First Growths. Located in Saint-Julien but bordered by the vineyards of Pauillac, the estate has built a reputation for producing wines of great depth, structure and refinement, with exceptional aging potential. Under the long-term stewardship of the Delon family, Léoville Las Cases has become a benchmark for classical Left Bank Bordeaux. Special releases like the Collection Miroir “Millésimes Secrets” highlight the château’s commitment to both tradition and connoisseur-focused innovation, offering collectors a rare opportunity to explore its history through carefully chosen vintages.
