Description
Chateau Lauriga Soleil Blanc 2020 is a characterful white blend from the sun-drenched hills of Roussillon, in Southern France. Crafted from Grenache Blanc and Macabeo (Viura), it delivers a vibrant, Mediterranean style that balances ripe fruit with refreshing freshness. This cuvée showcases the region’s ability to produce elegant, food-friendly whites that remain wonderfully approachable.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Soleil Blanc 2020 typically shows a pale straw to light gold color with subtle green reflections, hinting at its freshness. The nose is expressive and inviting, with notes of white peach, ripe pear and citrus zest, layered with delicate floral tones—think acacia and orange blossom—alongside touches of Mediterranean herbs and a gentle hint of almond.
On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied and crisp, combining the roundness of Grenache Blanc with the tension and lift of Macabeo. Expect flavors of stone fruit, lemon curd and juicy melon, framed by a fine mineral line and a clean, slightly saline finish that speaks of its southern coastal origins. The balance of fruit and acidity makes it very drinkable now; while this vintage is best enjoyed within 2–4 years of harvest to savor its primary fruit, it may develop a bit more honeyed and nutty complexity with short-term cellaring.
Production
Chateau Lauriga sources the grapes for Soleil Blanc from vineyards in Roussillon, where warm, sunny days are tempered by cooling winds and stony, well-drained soils. This Mediterranean terroir allows Grenache Blanc and Macabeo to ripen fully while retaining good natural acidity. The grapes are typically harvested in the cool of the early morning to preserve aromatic freshness, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to highlight the varietal character and purity of fruit, with the wine aged on fine lees for added texture and complexity before bottling.
Food & Serving
Soleil Blanc 2020 is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with seafood such as grilled prawns, seared scallops, mussels, or simply prepared white fish. It also complements Mediterranean dishes—think tomatoes, olives, fresh herbs, and goat cheese—as well as light poultry, salads and soft-ripened cheeses. Serve well-chilled, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to emphasize its brightness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving can help the aromas fully open up.
