Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2001 shows a deep plum-purple core that hints at its concentration and maturity. The nose is highly polished and aromatic, unfolding with lead pencil, cedar, red and black currants, ripe plums, and subtle floral nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully composed, with impressive precision rather than brute power. Sweet, fine-grained tannins and a long, graceful finish give the wine real class, and while it is already very expressive, it should continue to evolve gracefully for years to come.

Production
The wine comes from Château Lafite Rothschild’s exceptional vineyards in Pauillac, on Bordeaux’s gravelly Médoc terroir, where excellent drainage and old vines contribute to Lafite’s trademark finesse. Harvesting is done by hand, with strict selection to ensure only the best fruit is used, and production remains deeply rooted in traditional methods with careful vineyard work throughout the year. Vinification is carried out with meticulous control to preserve purity, structure, and the estate’s unmistakable elegance.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal wine for refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, truffle-based preparations, or game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C and, if opening now, decant gently for 1–2 hours to allow the aromas to unfold without stripping away its delicate structure.
