Description
Chateau d'Agel Les Bonnes Magnum 2017 is a characterful Southern French red from one of Languedoc’s most respected sites. Made from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, it combines ripe Mediterranean power with freshness and structure, and in magnum format it has especially good potential to evolve beautifully over time.
Tasting Notes
Expect a deep ruby colour with a generous, sun-kissed profile in the glass. The nose is typically expressive and layered, with dark berries, plum, garrigue herbs, black pepper and subtle earthy notes.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and supple, with ripe fruit, savoury spice and a solid core of tannin that gives shape and length. The magnum format supports slower, more graceful development, so it should continue to gain complexity over several years.
Production
Chateau d'Agel is located in Agel, one of the most highly regarded wine areas in Languedoc, where the estate benefits from south-facing rocky slopes that help ripen the grapes fully while preserving freshness. The vineyards’ exposed terroir and Mediterranean climate suit Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah particularly well, creating wines with concentration and balance. The estate places strong emphasis on hygiene, experience, professionalism and a deep respect for winemaking throughout production.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled lamb, roast beef, duck confit, braised game and richly seasoned Mediterranean dishes. It also works well with aged cheeses and hearty mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if opened young to allow the wine to open up fully.
Producer
Chateau d'Agel is a well-regarded producer in the Languedoc, with a reputation built on careful vineyard work and a clear focus on quality. The estate’s south-facing hillside location gives it a strong identity within the region, and the team’s commitment to clean, thoughtful winemaking has helped establish its standing among discerning wine buyers.
