Description
Château Cos d'Estournel 2003 Magnum is an impressive Bordeaux that combines power, elegance, and the added ageing potential of magnum format. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it reflects a warm vintage in Saint-Estèphe, with ripe fruit and a polished, age-worthy structure. As one of Bordeaux’s famed Second Growth estates, Cos d’Estournel has long been admired for wines of distinction and character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with inviting intensity. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, smoke, and a subtle spice note that adds complexity and depth.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe fruit, well-integrated tannins, and a rounded, silky texture. The finish is long and expressive, carrying hints of balsamic, oak, and lingering dark fruit. Thanks to the magnum format, it has excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop beautifully over time.
Production
This wine comes from Château Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe, where gravelly, well-drained soils help Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot ripen with concentration and freshness. The 2003 vintage was shaped by a notably warm summer, producing grapes with generous ripeness and rich flavor. Vinification was carried out to preserve structure, aromatic depth, and balance, with oak ageing contributing refinement and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is a great match for roast beef, lamb, venison, or other rich meat dishes, as well as mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C to show its full aromatic range and texture. Decanting is recommended, especially if opened young, to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its layered complexity.

Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, the château has earned a reputation for excellence and consistency across generations.
