Description
Château Bellefont-Belcier’s Les Tours de Belcier 2018 is a refined Saint-Émilion red that brings together freshness, depth, and classic Bordeaux character. Produced from a historic estate on the south-facing slopes of Saint-Émilion, it reflects both the site’s expressive terroir and the château’s Grand Cru Classé pedigree.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2018 shows a deep, concentrated ruby color with inviting brightness at the rim. The nose is fresh and fruit-driven, opening with blackcurrant, layered spice, and a subtle touch of liquorice.
On the palate, it is smooth and well-structured, with flavors of juniper, black pepper, dark chocolate, and blackberry. The wine feels balanced and precise, with enough freshness to keep the fruit lively and enough structure to suggest further development in bottle over the next several years.
Production
The vineyards of Château Bellefont-Belcier sit on the southern side of Saint-Émilion, where the hillside position and hidden underground springs contribute to the estate’s distinctive vitality and finesse. Founded in the late 18th century and extensively restructured in 1994, the property combines historic roots with modern vineyard management. Vinification includes cold maceration in temperature-controlled concrete tanks and small-capacity wooden vats, techniques that help preserve freshness while building texture and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for around 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics to open fully.
Producer
Château Bellefont-Belcier is a historic Saint-Émilion estate that was once owned by a powerful Bordeaux noble family, with vineyard development linked to Count Louis-François de Belcier. The château itself was built in the early 19th century and named for the many springs beneath the hillside. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé in 2006, it is now recognized as one of the appellation’s notable properties for its combination of heritage, terroir, and polished winemaking.
