Description

Chantal Lescure Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2021 is a refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most coveted premier cru vineyards. This is Pinot Noir at its most seductive and precise, combining the sensual charm of Vosne-Romanée with the tension and purity of the 2021 vintage. A wine for collectors and Burgundy lovers alike, it offers both immediate pleasure and the promise of graceful evolution.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2021 Les Suchots shows a luminous, deep ruby colour with garnet highlights at the rim. The nose is immediately evocative of great Vosne: wild strawberry, raspberry coulis and black cherry layered with rose petals, violet, Asian spice, star anise and a subtle, refined oak touch. With air, more savoury nuances emerge – forest floor, tea leaf, and a hint of graphite and cedar. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet remarkably intense, with a silken, almost cashmere-like texture that is a hallmark of Les Suchots. Red and dark berries intermingle with notes of sweet spice, dried orange peel and a delicate earthiness. The tannins are fine-grained and chalky, providing structure without harshness, while a vibrant line of acidity brings lift and energy. The finish is long, perfumed and persistent, echoing with spice and floral notes. 2021’s cooler, more classic profile gives this wine excellent aging potential: it should drink beautifully from 2026 and continue to develop complexity for 10–15 years or more in a good cellar.

Production
Les Suchots is one of Vosne-Romanée’s most celebrated premier crus, perfectly situated on the mid-slope between Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg and Echézeaux. Here, well-drained limestone and clay-limestone soils, rich in fine gravel, provide an ideal balance of ripeness and finesse, yielding Pinot Noir of both sensuality and precision. Domaine Chantal Lescure is farmed organically, with great emphasis on soil health and biodiversity; yields are kept low through careful vineyard work, and harvesting is done entirely by hand with strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery. In the cellar, the philosophy is low-intervention: gentle extraction, significant use of whole clusters depending on the vintage, native yeast fermentation, and élevage in French oak barrels (with a thoughtful but not excessive proportion of new oak) for around 12–18 months. Bottling is typically carried out with minimal fining and filtration to preserve the wine’s purity and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is an outstanding partner for refined, flavourful dishes: roasted duck breast with cherry or fig, pigeon, veal tenderloin with morels, or lamb saddle with herbs and jus. It also shines alongside simple but luxurious plates like truffled poultry, wild mushroom risotto, or aged Comté and mild, earthy cow’s milk cheeses. Serve at 15–16°C to highlight its aromatic complexity and silky texture. Decanting for 45–60 minutes in its youth is recommended to allow the bouquet to unfurl; older bottles (8+ years) should be decanted gently, mainly to remove sediment, shortly before serving.

Producer
Domaine Chantal Lescure, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, was founded in 1975 and has steadily earned a reputation as one of the most serious and terroir-driven estates in the Côte de Nuits. Today, the domaine farms its vineyards organically, with a strong commitment to respectful, hands-on viticulture and meticulous parcel-by-parcel work. With holdings across prestigious appellations from Beaune to Vosne-Romanée, the estate is known for producing structured yet sensual Pinot Noirs that age beautifully and faithfully reflect their origins. In recent decades, the domaine has attracted growing critical acclaim for its purity of fruit, deft use of whole cluster fermentation, and an unwavering focus on expressing the nuances of each climat—making its Les Suchots one of the benchmark bottlings for lovers of serious Vosne-Romanée.
