Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, this Chardonnay is all about restraint and finesse. The nose typically opens with notes of citrus blossom, ripe lemon, white peach, and subtle leesy complexity, alongside a distinctive saline-mineral edge and a touch of toasted almond from élevage. On the palate, it is focused and layered, showing bright acidity, clean orchard fruit, and a silky texture balanced by freshness and tension. Rather than weight or overt oak, the wine emphasizes clarity and length, making it immediately enjoyable while also giving it excellent aging potential over the next 6–7 years and beyond.

Production
The grapes come from Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, one of California’s benchmark Chardonnay sites, known for its cool coastal influence and expressive, well-drained terroir. Gavin Chanin has sourced fruit here since 2008, and the site’s long growing season helps preserve acidity and aromatics. The wine is made in Chanin’s restrained style, with some stem inclusion depending on the vineyard and aging primarily in neutral barrels to preserve purity and site character.

This Chardonnay is an excellent match for roast chicken, grilled halibut, lobster, scallops, creamy pasta dishes, or simply a plate of oysters and fresh bread. Serve it lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to show both its energy and texture. Decanting is not necessary, but a brief aeration can help open up the wine in its youth.
