Description
Ruinart Brut Rosé Second Skin brings together the finesse of one of Champagne’s most historic houses with an ultra-modern, eco-conscious presentation. Crafted exclusively from Premier Cru vineyards and dressed in Ruinart’s innovative, fully recyclable ‘second skin’ case, this cuvée is as thoughtfully made as it is beautiful in the glass. As a non-vintage blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it captures the house’s signature elegance while offering a generous, fruit-forward style perfect for both gifting and celebration.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ruinart Brut Rosé shows a deep, luminous pink hue with delicate copper highlights and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is subtle yet expressive, opening with vibrant red fruit—fresh strawberries, redcurrants, and wild raspberries—layered with hints of blackberry, rose petals, and a gentle citrus lift.
On the palate, the wine is finely textured and silky, with a beautifully balanced interplay between ripe red berry fruit and refreshing acidity. The presence of still red Pinot Noir in the blend lends depth, structure, and a soft, caressing tannic touch, while Chardonnay brings precision, freshness, and length. Notes of pomegranate, pink grapefruit, and a whisper of pastry round out the finish, which is long, refined, and delicately chalky. Enjoy it now for its vibrant fruit and finesse; with a few years of cellaring, it will gain additional complexity and a more nuanced, savory edge.
Production
This Brut Rosé is sourced exclusively from Premier Cru vineyards in Champagne, predominantly around the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, where chalk-rich soils provide the hallmark tension and minerality of Ruinart’s style. The blend is approximately 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, with about 18% of the Pinot Noir vinified as red wine to give color, structure, and aromatics. Grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit. The base wines undergo full malolactic fermentation, adding roundness and creaminess to the texture. The final cuvée is a meticulous assemblage of multiple vintages, including 20–25% reserve wines from the previous two years, ensuring consistency and depth. After secondary fermentation and extended lees aging in bottle, the wine is finished with a dosage of around 9 g/L, delivering a balanced, Brut style.
Food & Serving
Ruinart Brut Rosé is an exceptionally versatile food companion, ideal both as an apéritif and at the table. Pair it with salmon tartare, tuna sashimi, or grilled langoustines to echo its red-fruited brightness, or serve alongside duck breast with red berries, charcuterie, and lightly spiced Asian dishes that complement its silky texture and freshness. It also works beautifully with soft, creamy cheeses or berry-based desserts that are not overly sweet. Serve well-chilled, at around 8–10°C (46–50°F). A brief 10–15 minutes in a chilled decanter or simply allowing the wine to open in the glass will help reveal additional complexity and aromatic nuance.
Producer
Founded in 1729, Ruinart is widely recognized as the oldest established Champagne house, rooted in the historic city of Reims. Renowned for its exceptional use of Chardonnay and its luminous, refined style, Ruinart has long been associated with purity, elegance, and a strong sense of place, shaped by the region’s iconic chalk cellars (crayères). The house has earned a reputation for consistently high quality across its range, with its rosé cuvées in particular admired for their delicacy and gastronomic versatility. The Second Skin packaging underscores Ruinart’s leadership not only in craftsmanship and aesthetics, but also in sustainability: a fully recyclable case made from 100% natural wood fibers, designed to protect the wine while dramatically reducing packaging waste and environmental impact.
