Description

Champagne Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Magnum is a luminous expression of pure Chardonnay from one of Champagne’s most historic houses. Presented in an impressive magnum format, it offers enhanced aging potential and a more harmonious evolution in bottle—perfect for celebrations or refined cellaring. Crafted exclusively from premier Chardonnay vineyards across the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, this cuvée is renowned for its elegance, minerality, and crystalline freshness, continuing a legacy that dates back to 1729, when Ruinart became the first established Champagne house.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs shows a pale golden color with subtle green highlights and a fine, persistent stream of delicate bubbles. The visual impression is one of clarity and finesse, echoing the wine’s pure Chardonnay character. On the nose, it opens with vibrant citrus—fresh lemon, lime zest, and yuzu—layered with ripe stone fruits such as white peach and nectarine. Floral notes of acacia and jasmine mingle with hints of brioche, chalk, and a delicate touch of almond, reflecting its time on lees. The palate is taut, precise, and silky, balancing bright acidity with a creamy, rounded texture. Flavors of citrus and just-ripe apricot are supported by subtle pastry notes and an unmistakable chalky minerality that lingers on the long, mouthwatering finish. As a non-vintage Champagne, it is intended to be enjoyed on release, but in magnum format it will develop added complexity—more brioche, hazelnut, and honeyed tones—over 5–10 years in a proper cellar.

Production
Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is sourced predominantly from Premier Cru Chardonnay vineyards, many located in the chalk-rich slopes of the Côte des Blancs and selected plots in the Montagne de Reims. The cool climate and pure chalk subsoils lend the wine its hallmark tension, finesse, and saline minerality. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and delicacy, then gently pressed to obtain only the purest juice. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain aromatic precision, followed by malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and enhance texture. A blend of wines from several vintages, including a proportion of carefully aged reserve wines, ensures consistency of the house style. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine is matured on its lees for an extended period before disgorgement, contributing to its fine mousse and subtle brioche complexity.

Food & Serving
This Blanc de Blancs magnum is an outstanding aperitif Champagne and pairs beautifully with refined, delicate dishes. Think freshly shucked oysters, scallop carpaccio, tartare of sea bass, sushi and sashimi, or simple grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It also complements fine shellfish—lobster, crab, and langoustines—as well as lightly creamy cheeses such as young goat’s cheese or brie. Serve well chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic precision. In magnum, a brief 15–20 minutes in an ice bucket after opening allows the wine to fully express its bouquet; decanting is not necessary, but pouring into large tulip-shaped flutes or white-wine glasses will best showcase its complexity.

Producer
Founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, Maison Ruinart holds the distinction of being the oldest established Champagne house, deeply woven into the history and prestige of the Champagne region. Based in Reims, Ruinart is particularly celebrated for its mastery of Chardonnay, which lies at the heart of its refined, luminous style. The house ages its wines in historic, UNESCO-listed chalk cellars—crayères—that provide ideal conditions for slow, graceful maturation. Over nearly three centuries, Ruinart has earned a reputation for purity, finesse, and consistency, with its Blanc de Blancs regarded as a benchmark of the style and a reference point for Chardonnay-based Champagne worldwide.
